Daekyo Group is targeting the premium kimchi market by leveraging deep sea water. The company is seeking a breakthrough in new business by nurturing a differentiated food brand through its affiliate, Gangwon Deep Sea Water.
According to Gangwon Deep Sea Water on June 25, the company is offering a premium kimchi product under the name "Cheonnyeondongan Kimchi." Gangwon Deep Sea Water is a deep sea water specialist established by Daekyo Group in partnership with Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province and Goseong County. Based on its deep sea water brand "Cheonnyeondongan," the company has been engaged in the kimchi business since 2009.
Cheonnyeondongan Kimchi is characterized by using deep sea water drawn from a depth of 605 meters off the coast of Goseong, Gangwon, to grow and brine the cabbage. This process delivers a unique flavor profile, balancing a crisp texture with a refreshing and savory taste. The company explains that deep sea water contains more than eight times the natural minerals found in regular bottled water, which enhances the fermentation and depth of flavor in the kimchi.

Initially, the focus was on kimjang kimchi, but since 2022, the company has also introduced spring and summer kimchi in response to customer requests, operating a limited production system three times a year. Only the amount ordered each week is produced, and freshly made kimchi is delivered to customers. Even without significant marketing efforts, the brand has gained a loyal customer base through word of mouth about its taste and quality. Over the past three years, customer satisfaction surveys have consistently recorded an average score of over 90%, establishing Gangwon Deep Sea Water as a leading premium brand.
