President Lee Receives Reports on 11 Key Issues Including R&D Budget... Orders Proactive and Swift Measures
President Lee Jae Myung received reports on 11 issues, including the allocation of research and development (R&D) budgets, at his first Chief Secretary Meeting and instructed the establishment of proactive and swift countermeasures.
Lee Kyuyoun, Senior Presidential Secretary for Public Relations and Communications, stated at a briefing held at the Yongsan Presidential Office on the 23rd regarding the Chief Secretary Meeting, "President Lee instructed that, with regard to economic security, related countermeasures should be established more proactively and swiftly."
The Chief Secretary Meeting is an organization attended by aides at the level of chief secretary and above. This meeting was held for the first time, 19 days after the president's inauguration. During the meeting, 11 current issues were reported, including R&D budget allocation, national security, measures for small business owners, and judicial system reform.

View original imageLee, the senior secretary, said, "(President Lee) emphasized that efficiency in budget execution is of utmost importance with regard to R&D budget allocation," and added, "He also instructed that research autonomy should be enhanced."
In addition, the senior secretary explained that President Lee called for bold measures to reduce the debt burden on small business owners and self-employed individuals.
Furthermore, it has been reported that President Lee requested not only directors and chief secretaries but also working-level officials to attend the meetings, in order to formulate thorough and prompt countermeasures.

Meanwhile, the meeting, which had been called the Chief Secretary Meeting during the Moon Jae In administration, was renamed to "Chief Aide Meeting" under former President Yoon Suk Yeol. President Lee has restored the meeting's name to that used during the Moon administration.
