Jangseong County Expands 'Additional Vaccinations' for Foot-and-Mouth Disease Prevention
The Only Public Veterinarian Support Program in South Jeolla Province
Jangseong County in South Jeolla Province announced on June 19, 2025, that starting this year, it will implement additional foot-and-mouth disease vaccinations in June and December, in addition to the existing biannual mass vaccinations.
Foot-and-mouth disease is classified as a type 1 livestock infectious disease. It affects cloven-hoofed animals such as cattle, pigs, and goats, and is highly contagious. The disease causes blisters around the mouth, and young animals may die from the infection, making thorough prevention essential.
Jangseong County is having veterinarians administer vaccines to cattle farms to prevent foot-and-mouth disease.

The first dose is administered at two months of age, followed by a second dose four weeks later, and then regular vaccinations every four to six months. In particular, Jangseong County will assign public veterinarians to support vaccinations at commercial farms raising more than 100 cattle.
An official from the county stated, "We decided to provide public veterinarian support because many farmers are elderly and find it difficult to administer the vaccinations themselves," adding, "We will continue to offer support so that cattle farmers can focus on livestock farming with peace of mind."
