Sejong City, Korea University, and ETRI Join Forces to Foster Future Strategic Industries
Agreement on Establishing a Cooperative System
Including Joint Research Institute and Specialized Graduate School
Sejong City announced that it has established a cooperative system with Korea University and the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) for the establishment of a joint research institute and a graduate school specializing in future strategic industries.
On June 17, Mayor Minho Choi signed a business agreement at the Korea University Sejong Campus with Dongwon Kim, President of Korea University, and Seungchan Bang, President of ETRI, to build a platform for cooperation among local governments, academia, and research institutes. This agreement centers on cooperation in six future strategic industries: future mobility, digital healthcare, information security, digital content, broadcasting·video·media, and quantum industry.

View original imageUnder the agreement, the three institutions plan to focus on revitalizing future industries by: ▲ establishing an open public research and development ecosystem, ▲ setting up a joint research system and promoting educational and research collaboration, ▲ jointly utilizing research facilities and equipment, and ▲ exchanging research personnel and fostering talent.
In particular, the joint research institute and the specialized graduate school will serve as research and education platforms that combine the strengths of each institution, and are expected to become key hubs for talent development and research and development in the region's future strategic industries.

Mayor Minho Choi stated, "If the mega think tank, which is centered on relocating universities and research institutes concentrated in the Seoul metropolitan area to the central region, is realized, highly skilled talent can be supplied to non-metropolitan and all regions," adding, "Within this trend, the agreement with Korea University and ETRI is highly significant."
