On June 17, SK Bioscience announced that it had carried out environmental cleanup activities, including the removal of invasive harmful plants and the collection of trash along the riverside, around the Tancheon Wetland Ecological Park in Taepyeong-dong, Sujeong-gu, Seongnam City.
This initiative is an example of ESG practices in which private companies, civic organizations, and public institutions work together to preserve the local environment. The event was attended by employees of SK Bioscience, Kim Myeongyeol, head of the Seongnam branch of the National Environmental Protection Movement Headquarters, and Han Hosang, deputy director of the Seongnam Volunteer Center.
Participants helped restore the health of nature by removing invasive species that disrupt the ecosystem, such as ragweed, cocklebur, and Japanese hop, and by collecting trash along the riverside. Such efforts to remove invasive species are essential for restoring native plant habitats and preserving biodiversity, playing a vital role in maintaining natural ecosystems within urban areas.
SK Bioscience continues to engage in various eco-friendly activities in which employees voluntarily participate, including this recent initiative. Near the Andong L HOUSE vaccine production facility, employees regularly take part in "plogging" (jogging while picking up trash), and at the headquarters, the company organizes a marine cleanup campaign called "beachcombing," where employees and their families participate together, helping to spread ESG culture at the family level. In addition, SK Bioscience has strengthened its social contribution programs for employees by continuously carrying out "eco-friendly kit making" activities to raise environmental awareness.
Park Jongsoo, head of the Sustainability Management Division at SK Bioscience, stated, "Corporate sustainability starts with responsible environmental action," and added, "As a life science company that produces vaccines, SK Bioscience will further strengthen its environment-centered ESG management to create a healthy future where humans and nature can coexist."
Jang Hyeonja, head of the Seongnam Volunteer Center, said, "I am deeply grateful to the company employees who volunteered despite the hot weather," and added, "This activity is a good example of ESG practice created jointly by companies, civic organizations, and public institutions, and we will continue to cooperate for sustainable environmental protection in the future."
