View original imageOn June 12 (local time), at Oakmont Country Club (par 70, 7,372 yards) in Oakmont, Pennsylvania, USA, the two players both carded a 2-under-par 68 in the opening round of the 125th US Open, the third major tournament of the season, placing them tied for third. Siwoo Kim recorded four birdies and two bogeys, while Sungjae Im had five birdies and three bogeys. They are two strokes behind the leader and now have a chance to become the second Korean player to win a major, following Y.E. Yang’s victory at the 2009 PGA Championship.
J.J. Spaun (USA) sits atop the leaderboard with a 4-under-par 66, making four birdies without a single bogey. He previously claimed a win at the 2022 Valero Texas Open. He is currently ranked 25th in the world. Brooks Koepka (USA), who moved to LIV Golf, joined the tie for third and is aiming for his third US Open victory, having previously won in 2017 and 2018. Jon Rahm (Spain), also a LIV Golf member, had a solid start and is tied for sixth at 1-under-par 69.

Tom Kim is tied for 33rd at 2-over-par 72. World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler and LIV member as well as defending champion Bryson DeChambeau (both USA) are tied for 49th at 3-over-par 73, looking to climb the leaderboard. World No. 2 Rory McIlroy (Northern Ireland), Byeonghun An, and Hideki Matsuyama (Japan) finished the first round tied for 62nd at 4-over-par 74.
