Asan City Launches Emergency Public Livelihood Economy Committee... Discusses Solutions for Business Workforce Shortages
Composed of Over 50 Members Including Small Business Owners and Entrepreneurs
On June 11, Asan City in South Chungcheong Province announced the launch of the "Emergency Public Livelihood Economy Special Committee," a citizen-participatory policy discussion body.
The city held the inaugural ceremony and the first meeting of the committee the previous afternoon at the Onyang Oncheon Traditional Market Complex Support Center.
The committee was established to quickly reflect on-site opinions in policy decisions. It is chaired by Mayor Oh Sehyun and consists of more than 50 members, including small business owners and entrepreneurs.
During the meeting, urgent public livelihood issues were discussed, including expanding cafeteria closure days, paying construction fees in installments, simplifying small-scale permit processes, revitalizing the local construction industry, and addressing workforce shortages for businesses.
In particular, regarding the agenda of expanding cafeteria closure days raised mainly by the restaurant industry, some participants suggested that extending lunchtime during closure days should also be considered to help boost the local commercial district.
Regarding workforce shortages, Gong Daehun, plant manager at Sungwoo Hitech, proposed establishing a local workforce sharing platform, and Mayor Oh immediately ordered a review of the idea.
The city plans to incorporate the most feasible agendas discussed that day into policy. Moving forward, the committee will continue to hold regular meetings and on-site discussions to consistently gather citizens' opinions.
Mayor Oh Sehyun stated, "Action-oriented policies that reflect voices from the field are the key to overcoming crises," adding, "The energy for local economic recovery will be created together with citizens."
