Gwangju Donggu to Launch "Vacant House Search and Rental" Platform
On June 10, Gwangju Donggu District announced that it will officially launch the "Vacant House Market" next month to promote the efficient use of vacant homes in the area and support housing stability for local residents.
The "Vacant House Market" platform, which will be available on the Donggu District Office website, is designed to connect vacant house owners with potential tenants. It aims to address the issue of vacant homes through bold financial support and to ease the housing burden for residents.
Through the "Vacant House Market" platform, users can conveniently access information such as vacant house listings, rental registration applications, and details about support programs. Currently, vacant homes left unattended in Donggu not only detract from the area's appearance but also cause various social issues, including the potential for these areas to become crime-prone. To address these problems, Donggu is carrying out demolition and safety measures, issuing orders for action on vacant homes, and removing hazards through administrative demolition as part of a demolition-focused urban renewal project.
In addition, to minimize the spread of vacant homes, the district plans to shift from a demolition-based approach to a utilization-focused project by operating the Vacant House Market. To encourage vacant house owners to renovate and rent out their properties, the district will provide "vacant house repair subsidies" of up to 30 million won. If a renovated vacant house is listed on the Vacant House Market and a lease agreement is signed, tenants will receive a "half-price rent" benefit, with the district covering half of the rent.
This initiative is expected to make a significant contribution to creating a stable living environment for economically vulnerable groups such as young people, newlyweds, and low-income households.
Im Taek, head of the district office, stated, "We expect the Vacant House Market project to breathe new life into neglected vacant homes, revitalize the local community, and take an important step toward improving residents' housing welfare."
