Siheung City in Gyeonggi Province is accelerating efforts to lay the foundation for building a bio-industry ecosystem.
On June 10, Siheung City announced that, in partnership with the Siheung Industry Promotion Agency, it will begin full-scale implementation of the "Siheung Bio-Industry Ecosystem Foundation Project" to strategically integrate and foster AI-based bio-industries, as well as to establish the "Gyeonggi Siheung Bio Specialized Complex."

The project structure assigns overall responsibility for policy direction and strategy development to the city, while the Siheung Industry Promotion Agency will serve as the support office for the bio specialized complex. To this end, the city plans to strengthen connections and cooperation with key research and medical institutions such as Seoul National University and Seoul National University Hospital, as well as with leading companies and research organizations. Policy cooperation networks will also be expanded with Gyeonggi Province, the Gyeonggi Institute of Economic Science and Technology, and the Siheung Policy Research Institute.
The project consists of three main areas and five detailed initiatives: ▲ Establishment of the Siheung Bio Innovation Ecosystem Strategy ▲ Operation of customized support programs for Siheung bio companies ▲ Activation of networks.
To establish the innovation ecosystem strategy, the city plans to formulate a Siheung-style strategy for fostering the bio materials, parts, and equipment industry based on a demand survey and industry analysis of local bio companies. Building on this, the city will regularly host technology exchange meetings, industry-academia-research joint planning workshops, and policy roundtables to create a cooperative ecosystem.
Customized support programs will also be implemented to assist local bio companies with technological growth and commercialization. These programs will be field-oriented, including strengthening R&D planning capabilities to respond to government R&D project calls and supporting technology commercialization.
To activate the bio network, the city plans to organize cooperative programs such as technology exchange meetings, policy forums, and technical workshops. In particular, the city aims to foster network hubs for industry-academia-research collaboration in areas such as Baegot, Jeongwang, and Siheung Smart Hub, maximizing technological cooperation and agglomeration effects.
