The forum, held under the theme "Strategies for Fostering the Bio New Industry in Jeonnam," was attended by around 400 people, including public officials and representatives from related organizations.
During the forum, Professor Park stated, "Jeonnam recognized the potential of the bio industry early on and has been building infrastructure to become a hub for advanced bio new industries, focusing on the Hwasun Vaccine Industry Special Zone, which is the only one of its kind in Korea." He emphasized that "if Jeonnam attracts large-scale national research and development (R&D) projects based on its advanced bio technology and leading collaborative projects, it can become a first mover in global bio new drug development, rather than merely a fast follower."
Jeollanam-do plans to use the forum as an opportunity to establish concrete implementation strategies for fostering the advanced bio industry and to strengthen cooperation with related organizations in order to build a sustainable industrial ecosystem.
Jeollanam-do is making various efforts to lay the foundation for the advanced bio industry. In April, the province held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new headquarters of Vaxcellbio Co., the region's first listed bio company, at the Hwasun Biopharmaceuticals Industrial Complex, marking the start of full-scale business expansion.
In addition, Jeollanam-do has achieved several milestones, including being selected as a World Health Organization (WHO) Global Bio Campus, opening the National Immunotherapy Innovation Center, and being designated as a specialized complex for the national advanced strategic bio industry. Moving forward, the province plans to accelerate its emergence as a global bio hub by expanding its R&D base, including the establishment of a core technology platform for advanced peptide new drugs.
