The Bukgu Public Health Center and Trauma Center was built with a total project cost of 42 billion KRW on the site of Daeseong Apartment, which was damaged by the 2017 Pohang induced earthquake.
The facility occupies a land area of 4,463 square meters, with a total floor area of 13,763 square meters, and consists of two basement levels and six above-ground floors. It is the first facility in the nation to integrate a public health center and a trauma center.
This facility operates as an open health and cultural space accessible to all citizens. The first and second floors feature a smart health experience center, a children's health experience center, a stress measurement center, a mind care room, a relaxation room, a healing cafe, and other spaces for experience and relaxation.
The third and fourth floors house medical treatment and trauma counseling and therapy rooms, while the fifth floor is dedicated to health promotion programs such as a smoking cessation clinic and a nutrition program office.
The sixth floor serves as office space for the health center, the first and second basement levels are used as parking lots, and a separate building contains a screening clinic.
Pohang City expects the Bukgu Public Health Center to serve as a key hub for urban regeneration in earthquake-affected areas, as well as a control tower for psychological recovery from disasters. The city also anticipates that the center will make a significant contribution to bridging the healthcare gap between urban and rural areas and establishing a foundation for future-oriented public health administration.
In addition, as a citizen-centered healthcare complex, the city plans to operate the facility to enhance the quality of public medical services, address healthcare blind spots, and improve health equity.
Mayor Lee Kangdeok stated, "The newly opened Bukgu Public Health Center and Trauma Center is a symbol of recovery for this area that has experienced earthquake damage," adding, "We will develop this place into a health and cultural space so that all citizens can enjoy a healthy daily life."
Pohang City plans to continuously expand region-specific health management services and smart public health policies centered around the Bukgu Public Health Center.
