On this day, Danchon Elementary School students and staff reaffirmed their commitment to environmental protection by taking small actions in daily life, such as using personal cups to reduce single-use items.
Lower grade students participated in a waste separation game, learning how to properly sort and dispose of waste. The focus was on naturally developing good recycling habits through a familiar medium?play.
Upper grade students took part in 'upcycling' activities, which go beyond simple recycling by giving new value to resources. The students experienced the meaning of resource circulation by making simple upcycled products themselves.
In particular, on this day, all students participated in a 'plogging' activity, walking through the village near the school and picking up litter. Plogging is a compound word formed from 'plocka up' (to pick up in Swedish) and 'jogging', and is an activity that allows people to protect the environment and improve their health at the same time.
The students shared their thoughts, saying, "It feels rewarding to see our village becoming cleaner," and "From now on, I won't just pass by litter on the street."
Principal Baek Kyungae said, "Environmental protection is not a task for the distant future, but something we must act on right now," and added, "I hope this activity will be an opportunity for our children to develop proper awareness and a sense of responsibility for the environment."
