Established in June 2020, the Gwangju Social Service Institute marks its 5th anniversary this year and will hold a commemorative event on June 9, featuring a forum, a celebration, and a report on achievements.
The event will take place in two parts at the Realistic Content Cube MX Studio of the Gwangju Information and Culture Industry Promotion Agency. It will serve as an opportunity to reflect on the institute's role as "a partner in happiness for Gwangju citizens" over the past five years and to explore future visions and challenges.
In the first part of the event, the "Salguyesuldang," a band composed of people with disabilities affiliated with the Gwangju Social Service Institute, will open the ceremony. They will engage the audience with familiar songs such as "Naneun Nabi" and "La La La." In addition, congratulatory video messages from various figures, a report on the 5th anniversary achievements, and the introduction of new characters will further heighten the excitement of the celebration.
The second part will feature a forum under the theme "Social Services Connecting People: Discussing the Basic Society." Professor Kang Namhun of Hanshin University will deliver a keynote speech on "Transitioning to a Basic Society." The panel discussion will include Hwang Jungha (Chonnam National University, Department of Life Welfare - moderator), Professor Jung Wono (Sungkonghoe University, Department of Social Welfare), Co-Representative Cho Seonik (Participation Autonomy 21), Kim Taewan (Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs, Social Security Policy Research Division), and Lee Sunmi (Gwangju Social Service Institute, Policy Research Division), who will discuss topics such as "Realizing a Basic Society and Income Security."
Alongside the anniversary event, the Gwangju Social Service Institute will engage with citizens through a series of relay events held by its affiliated facilities. Bitgoeul Senior Health Town will host its "16th Anniversary Event" on June 10, followed by the Elder Abuse Prevention Day event at the Senior Protection Agency on June 13, the opening ceremony of the Reclusive Youth Support Center on June 17, and the "Caregivers' Day Awareness Campaign" at the Long-Term Care Workers Support Center on June 23. These events will join the movement to "connect tomorrow and people."
