Moon Congratulates Lee on Apparent Victory: "The Choice of a Great People"
Former President Moon Jae-in sent a congratulatory message to Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate who is virtually confirmed to have won the 21st presidential election.
On June 4, Moon stated in a post on his Facebook page, "I congratulate Candidate Lee on his election as president together with the people," adding, "It is the choice of a great people."
Moon described the result as "a stern judgment on the Yoon Suk-yeol administration's total failure in state affairs and the act of rebellion that shook the nation," and said, "It is the outcome of the people's earnest desire for a new Republic of Korea."
He also said, "I want to see a Republic of Korea that runs forward powerfully again together with President Lee Jae-myung," and added, "I hope that common sense will be restored, the country will be normalized, and the people will be united."
He continued, "I hope that the devastated economy and people's livelihoods will be revived, that the national interest will be protected amid turbulent international circumstances, and that the country will move toward a peaceful future." He added, "None of these are easy tasks, but I believe they will be fulfilled as part of our mission for the times."
