Honoring Patriots... Gwangju City to Sound 'Moment of Silence Siren' at 10 a.m. on Memorial Day
On June 3, Gwangju City announced that it will sound a "moment of silence siren" throughout the city at 10:00 a.m. on June 6, in observance of the 70th Memorial Day.
The siren on this day is intended to honor the noble spirit of sacrifice of the patriots and fallen heroes who dedicated themselves to defending the nation, and to encourage citizens to reflect on their love for the country together.
The city plans to use 55 civil defense warning sirens to sound a steady tone for one minute.
Lee Buho, Director of Safety Policy, emphasized, "The siren sounded on Memorial Day is a signal to prompt a moment of silence and is unrelated to emergencies such as enemy air raids. We ask that citizens do not be alarmed and join in a solemn moment of silence while the siren sounds."
Meanwhile, the city will hold a memorial ceremony at the Memorial Tower in Gwangju Park on June 6 to honor the noble sacrifices of the patriots and fallen heroes.
