On June 2, the council announced that Jiyoon Lee (proportional representation, Democratic Party) had proposed the "Ordinance on the Guarantee and Support of Living Wage by the Chungcheongnam-do Office of Education."
This ordinance aims to promote livelihood stability and improve the actual quality of life for ultra-short-term workers by stipulating necessary provisions. It covers areas such as: ▲ the scope of those subject to the living wage ▲ the determination of the living wage ▲ the establishment, composition, and operation of the Living Wage Committee.
Lee stated, "Recently, ensuring the stability of low-wage workers' livelihoods and guaranteeing a humane standard of living have emerged as important tasks," and explained, "A living wage is a system that requires paying wages at a level higher than the minimum wage."
She added, "By stipulating the necessary matters for guaranteeing and supporting the living wage through this ordinance, we expect to promote livelihood stability and contribute to the actual improvement of quality of life for workers and their families in areas such as education, culture, and housing."
Meanwhile, the proposed ordinance on the guarantee and support of living wage by the Chungnam Office of Education will be reviewed and decided upon at the 359th regular session, which begins on June 10.
