The Secretariat of the Gumi City Council in Gyeongbuk has expressed deep shock and serious concern regarding the recent incident in which Council Member A assaulted a public official. The Secretariat has called for a swift and thorough investigation into the facts of the case and has urged that strong disciplinary action be taken.
This incident is regarded as a clear violation of human rights that occurred during the performance of official duties by a public servant. It is considered a grave matter, as it represents a serious breach of the responsibilities and dignity that a local council member is expected to uphold.
The Secretariat emphasized that public officials are the main agents of administration, working for citizens in accordance with laws and regulations. It stated that verbal abuse and physical violence cannot be justified under any circumstances.
The Secretariat stated, "We extend our deepest sympathy to the affected employee and will do our utmost at the organizational level to provide legal and institutional protection." It added, "We will make every effort to create a safe and respectful working environment so that the dignity and fundamental rights of public officials are never violated again."

Discussions on strengthening internal ethics within the council and protecting the human rights of public officials are expected to become more active in the future.
