The People Power Party criticized author Yoo Si-min's apology regarding his remarks about Seol Nan-young, the spouse of presidential candidate Kim Moon-soo, calling it "an apology that does not seem like an apology."
On May 31, the Council of Female Officeholders of the People Power Party issued a statement, declaring, "In a Republic of Korea where common sense and fairness prevail, there is no longer any place for such 'cheap, sycophantic intellectuals.'"
Previously, Yoo had sparked controversy by commenting on Seol, saying, "She probably felt elevated through marriage to a remarkable man who has led a life so outstanding that it is out of balance with her own," and added, "She is out of her mind."
In response, Yoo stated on his YouTube channel, "I apologize for the harshness of my expression," and explained, "If I had used a more polite and accurate expression, I probably would not have been criticized so much. That was my mistake."
On the same day, Lee Minchan, spokesperson for the Central Election Countermeasures Committee of the People Power Party, also issued a commentary, sharply criticizing, "Yoo Si-min is displaying a shallow attempt to gloss over the criticism directed at him with sophistry and empty rhetoric."
Lee pointed out, "The problem is not Yoo's manner of expression," and continued, "What has been revealed is the philosophical poverty of Yoo, which is filled with outdated ideas such as classism, academic elitism, discrimination, and a sense of superiority."

He further stated, "Instead of sincerely apologizing for his controversial words and actions and correcting his wrongdoing, Yoo once again flaunted his intellectual vanity by mentioning terms like 'intrinsic approach' and 'teleology.' What the public wants is not sophistry, but a genuine apology."
