However, the taste and quality are being evaluated as even more outstanding than in previous years.
Boseong County produces potatoes on a cultivation area of 920 hectares, with over 1,000 farming households participating. The expected production volume is estimated at approximately 15,000 tons.
The competitiveness of Boseong potatoes begins with high-quality seed potatoes of superior varieties. These seed potatoes, produced and supplied directly by the Boseong County Agricultural Technology Center, are highly resistant to diseases and offer excellent yields, making a significant contribution to stable income generation for local farmers.
Boseong’s strengths also include the cultivation of a wide variety of potato varieties to suit consumer preferences. These include ‘Chubaek,’ the representative variety; ‘Geumseon,’ a new variety developed by the Rural Development Administration; ‘Daeseo,’ a contract-grown processing potato; and ‘Sumi,’ which is popular as a snack potato.
In particular, the Deukryang and Hoecheon regions are directly influenced by sea breezes. Potatoes produced in these areas are characterized by high starch content, excellent texture, a fluffy mouthfeel, and a subtle savory flavor. They are also rich in minerals, making them an ideal healthy snack for everyone from children to the elderly.
Boseong County supplies freshly harvested potatoes not only to wholesale markets but also directly to consumers nationwide through its online marketplace, ‘Boseong Mall.’
An official from the county stated, “We are working to improve potato quality through the supply of high-quality seed potatoes, pest and disease control, cultivation technology education, and on-site evaluation events.” The official added, “We will further enhance the competitiveness of the ‘Boseong Potato’ brand by developing new varieties that are resistant to abnormal weather and by expanding eco-friendly cultivation.”
