Participants released 10,000 rockfish seeds into the waters of Sanbunryeong Port to help restore fishery resources. In addition, they carried out coastal cleanup activities, such as collecting marine litter along the Songpo coast, sharing the importance of ocean protection with local residents.
In particular, about 20 members from four local self-managed fishery communities?Daepo, Sinhyang fishing boats, Samcheonpo coastal fishing boats, and Samcheonpo octopus longline?voluntarily participated, further supporting the purpose of Sea Day.
As people who make their living from the sea, these participants demonstrated their commitment to marine protection and set an example of voluntary participation.
Mayor Park Dongsik stated, "Sea Day, now in its 30th year, is a meaningful occasion to remind us that the ocean is a source of future food resources and a key foundation of the national economy. I hope that all citizens will join in protecting the ocean, becoming a driving force for creating a sustainable marine environment."
Meanwhile, Sea Day is a national holiday observed annually on May 31 to raise public awareness about the ocean and to inspire pride among those working in the marine industry.
