An Economic Free Zone is a special economic area designed to promote foreign investment and attract high-tech industries, offering various incentives such as tax benefits and regulatory easing. In particular, areas classified as overpopulation control zones under the Metropolitan Area Reorganization Planning Act can partially escape industrial volume restrictions, which is expected to have a positive impact on attracting global companies, creating quality jobs, and revitalizing the local economy.
Uijeongbu City was selected in April as a candidate site for the additional designation of the Gyeonggi Economic Free Zone, which is being promoted by Gyeonggi Province, highlighting its emergence as a key growth hub in the northern metropolitan area.
This service focuses on fostering strategic industries?such as media content, artificial intelligence (AI), and biomedical?centered around Camp Red Cloud (CRC) and Camp Kyle, and on concretizing a blueprint for Uijeongbu as a future growth hub. In addition, the city plans to develop feasible development plans for Camp Jackson and Camp Stanley by identifying customized strategic industries linked to local characteristics.
About 20 participants, including Mayor Donggeun Kim, experts in industry and urban planning, officials from related departments, representatives from Uijeongbu Urban Corporation, and the service provider, attended the meeting and shared a wide range of opinions on fostering strategic industries and attracting companies.
Based on this service, Uijeongbu City plans to closely cooperate with Gyeonggi Province to supplement the development plan, build public consensus through forums, and conduct activities to attract companies, thereby accelerating efforts to be designated as an Economic Free Zone.
