Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Forms Task Force Amid Controversy Over Overseas Business Trips During Police Investigation
The Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly is set to improve the much-debated 'official overseas business trip' system.
On May 26, the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly announced the formation of the 'Official Overseas Business Trip Innovation Task Force (TF),' which will include key departments within the assembly such as the Legislative Policy Team, Protocol Team, Public Service Ethics Team, and Media Team. The purpose is to enhance transparency and accountability in the official overseas business trip system.
This initiative reflects the intentions of Kim Jinkyung (The Minjoo Party, Siheung 3), Chairperson of the Provincial Assembly.
The TF will be led by Lim Chaeho, Secretary General of the Assembly, with the Legislative Policy Officer serving as the general team leader.
The Innovation TF plans to establish improvement measures that meet the expectations of Gyeonggi residents, focusing on revising criteria to prevent overseas trips for leisure purposes and strengthening transparency.
The TF will continue its operations until substantive improvements to the system are confirmed.
Kim Jinkyung, Chairperson of the Provincial Assembly, stated, "Since official overseas business trips are public activities, they must be supported by reliable institutional mechanisms. The assembly will set strict standards on its own and establish new criteria for responsible official overseas business trips."
Lim Chaeho, Secretary General of the Assembly, promised, "The Innovation TF will steadily maintain its focus to ensure fundamental improvements, not just superficial measures. We will do our utmost to achieve meaningful changes that meet the expectations of Gyeonggi residents."
