Gwangju University announced on May 26 that it held the first lecture in its 2025 spring semester special lecture series by invited experts, under the theme "AI and Architectural Design."

This lecture, held on May 22 in the small auditorium on the third floor of Hosimgwan at Gwangju University, was organized to highlight how artificial intelligence (AI), a core technology of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, is being utilized in the field of architectural design. It also aimed to provide students with insights into the present and future of AI-based architectural design.

The speaker for the first lecture was Park Solgyu, head of the UnitLab R&D team. Park is a computational designer currently leading AI-based modular architecture projects and is a seasoned professional who previously served as the head of the digital technology (DT) team at Junglim Architecture.

During the lecture, Park explained the definition and development of computational design, the integration of AI technology into architectural design, and the changes and vision that AI will bring to the field in the future.

This special lecture was open not only to Gwangju University architecture students from first to fifth year, but also to students from the Department of Architecture at Chosun University and the general public, providing an opportunity for direct communication with an industry expert.

A representative from the Department of Architecture at Gwangju University said, "It is essential for architecture students to have opportunities to understand AI technology and connect it with their career paths in this rapidly changing technological environment," adding, "We will continue to provide opportunities for students to proactively understand the fast-evolving architectural environment and technological trends."
