Jeonnam Police Apprehend 10 for Damaging Election Posters and Banners
Strengthening Patrols in Areas with High Pedestrian Traffic
The police are currently investigating 10 individuals who were apprehended for damaging election posters and banners installed in the Jeonnam region.
According to the Jeonnam Provincial Police on May 23, a total of 10 people have been arrested on suspicion of damaging election posters and banners since the start of the 21st presidential election campaign on May 12, up to the present day (May 23).
These individuals are accused of damaging or removing election posters and banners, which display the pledges of presidential candidates, for unspecified reasons.
Under the current Public Official Election Act, anyone who damages or removes election posters or banners without just cause may be subject to imprisonment for up to two years or a fine of up to 4 million won.
Mo Sangmyo, Commissioner of the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency, stated, "We will mobilize all available police resources to strictly respond to election-related crimes," and urged, "Damaging election posters is a serious crime that undermines the fairness of elections, so we ask all residents to remain vigilant."
Meanwhile, the Jeonnam police have reported a gradual increase in cases of damage to election posters and are strengthening patrols, especially in areas with high pedestrian traffic.
