Yangsan City Conducts On-Site Inspections in Eastern Yangsan to Prepare for Heavy Summer Rainfall
Safety Inspections of Disaster-Prone Areas to Prepare for Heavy Rainfall
Aiming for Zero Casualties
On May 22, Yangsan City in South Gyeongsang Province conducted on-site inspections of areas in eastern Yangsan at risk of casualties and disaster-vulnerable facilities to prevent loss of life due to heavy rainfall during the summer. The inspections were led by Vice Mayor Cho Hyunok and officials from relevant departments.
This inspection was carried out to proactively respond to extreme rainfall and typhoon damage caused by climate change and to prevent casualties. The team visited several sites, including the Deokgye Underpass, the Hoeya District 3 River Disaster Prevention Project, and the Pyeongsan High Ground Reservoir Construction Site, where they directly identified risk factors and reviewed safety measures.
First, at the Deokgye Underpass, the team checked flood prevention measures such as the operation status of drainage pumps and facilities to block the inflow of rainwater. Next, at the Hoeya District 3 River Disaster Prevention Project site, they reviewed the progress of embankment and river maintenance work and examined the status of safety management.
Finally, at the Pyeongsan High Ground Reservoir Construction Site, the inspection focused on risk factors that could endanger lives, such as the potential collapse of slopes at the construction site during heavy rainfall.
Vice Mayor Cho Hyunok emphasized, "Since a large amount of rain can fall in a short period during the summer, even minor risk factors must be thoroughly checked and addressed to protect the lives and property of citizens." She also urged, "Please do your utmost to ensure that no casualties occur by continuously inspecting and monitoring disaster-vulnerable areas and facilities during the summer."
