Mokwon University Selected for "SW Oriented University Project"... Secures 5.5 Billion Won in National Funding
Mokwon University has been selected for the "2025 Software (SW) Oriented University Project (Specialized Track)" and will receive a total of 5.5 billion won in national funding and 150 million won in funding from Daejeon City over a maximum period of six years.
According to the university on May 22, this project has been promoted by the Ministry of Science and ICT since 2015 to cultivate SW professionals and convergence talents who meet the demand for new technologies. It does so by reforming SW curricula based on industry needs, expanding SW major enrollment, and providing SW convergence education for non-majors. As a result of this project, by last year, 58,782 SW major professionals and 40,390 convergence professionals had been produced.
The specialized track to which Mokwon University was selected was newly established in 2021. It is designed for small and medium-sized universities with fewer than 10,000 enrolled students to develop specialized educational systems in SW convergence or specialized SW industry fields in cooperation with local industries. This year, nine universities nationwide applied for this track, and Mokwon University and Korea Polytechnic University were ultimately selected.
Based on the selection results, Mokwon University plans to pursue the project with the vision of establishing an immersive content innovation hub that fuses artificial intelligence (AI) and SW technologies with culture and the arts.
In addition, to foster specialized fields that leverage the strengths of universities, companies, and the local community, Mokwon University will establish three new interdisciplinary majors in AI and SW specialization. The new interdisciplinary majors will be: ▲ Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), and Extended Reality (XR) major ▲ AI Convergence Content major ▲ Content Platform and Security major.
