The party considered the matter an "emergency disciplinary action" and submitted a petition to the central party, which immediately approved the expulsion on the 20th.
The individual in question was found to have called the secretariats of five district offices in Gwangju, falsely claiming to be a secretary to candidate Lee Jaemyung and requesting meetings. No actual harm occurred, as the district offices found the request suspicious and reported it to the party.
The Democratic Party's Real Republic of Korea Gwangju Election Countermeasures Committee stated, "Recently, there have been a series of fraud cases in which individuals use the pretense of campaign activities or steal business cards to demand money or induce no-shows. We are currently running a campaign to prevent damage to small business owners and urge everyone to exercise special caution."
