Hoseo University Awards Honorary Doctorate to K1 Electronics Chairman Kang Seungkoo
Contribution to Advancing Industrial Technology and Regional Development
Hoseo University announced on May 20 that it awarded the 31st Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration to Kang Seungkoo, Chairman of K1 Electronics, at the university church on the Asan campus.
Chairman Kang was recognized for his contributions to advancing domestic industrial technology and promoting regional industrial development through ethical management.
According to the university, Kang Seungkoo founded Gwangwon Electronics in 1984 and has since focused on research and development of key components such as medical devices and wireless communication equipment. He also commercialized the world’s first square tube-type capacitor.
In addition, he has been highly respected both inside and outside the industry for prioritizing corporate ethics and has contributed to revitalizing the local small and medium-sized enterprise ecosystem by promoting exchanges among companies.
He also served as the 10th, 11th, and 12th president of the Korea Federation of SMEs and was awarded the Silver Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit and the Iron Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit for his efforts in nurturing talent, among other achievements.
Kang Seungkoo stated, "Hoseo University's industry-academia convergence program was instrumental in laying the foundation during my early days as an entrepreneur," adding, "My connection with Hoseo University has shaped who I am today. I am deeply moved to now call this university my alma mater."
