Police Raid Ministry of Land Over Alleged Preferential Treatment in Yangpyeong Expressway Route Change
The police have launched a compulsory investigation into the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Yangpyeong County Office, and other entities in connection with allegations of preferential treatment related to the route change of the Seoul-Yangpyeong Expressway.
On the morning of May 16, the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crime Investigation Unit of the Gyeonggi Southern Provincial Police Agency began conducting search and seizure operations at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, Yangpyeong County Office, and the service provider Kyungdong Engineering, among others.
Previously, the Gyeonggi Provincial Chapter of the Democratic Party of Korea and the civic group Citizens' Action for Judicial Justice filed a complaint in July 2023 with the Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials, accusing former Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Won Hee-ryong of abuse of authority.
