Asan City Applies for Urban Management Plan for Establishment of Tangjeong High School
Aiming for Completion in 2027
45 Classes, 1,169 Students Planned
On May 15, Asan City in South Chungcheong Province announced that it has submitted an application to the provincial government for a decision (amendment) on the urban management plan for the establishment of Tangjeong 2 High School (tentatively named Tangjeong High School).
With this application, the final decision on the urban management plan is expected to be confirmed in July, three months earlier than originally planned.
Tangjeong High School is scheduled to be newly established in the Galsan-ri area of Tangjeong-myeon, Asan City, with a capacity of 45 classes and 1,169 students.
The initial goal was to open the school in March 2026. However, the opening was postponed until 2028 because Tangjeong Jeilsandan, the developer, failed to meet the land purchase requirements.
In response, the city is now aiming to complete construction by 2027, expediting the delayed schedule. Mayor Oh Sehyun also approved this agenda item as his first official act on April 3, immediately after taking office.
The city plans to complete all essential procedures, including consultation with the Urban Planning Committee, and to begin developing the school site and establishing the implementation plan as soon as the urban management plan is finalized.
The city has also stated that if negotiations between the developer and landowners are delayed, it may proceed with land expropriation procedures in accordance with the Act on Acquisition and Compensation of Land, etc. for Public Projects.
Mayor Oh Sehyun emphasized, "With the application for the urban management plan decision for the completion of Tangjeong High School now submitted to South Chungcheong Province, the project is gaining further momentum. We will focus all available administrative resources to resolve the inconvenience faced by students and parents, and through close cooperation with relevant agencies, we will ensure that the school opens early in 2027."
