Pangyo Zero City Becomes Korea's First to Apply 'National Standard for Autonomous Vehicle Data'
Operations applying the 'national standard (KS) for autonomous vehicle data' have begun in Pangyo Zero City, an urban-type autonomous driving demonstration complex in Gyeonggi Province.
The autonomous vehicle data standard defines the data format that enables communication between vehicles, as well as between vehicles and road infrastructure. This allows traffic signal information to be provided in the same format nationwide, regardless of the vehicle manufacturer.
After the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport established this standard in March, autonomous demonstration vehicles operating in Pangyo Zero City, such as the FantaG Bus, have been sending and receiving KS standard-based messages in real time and are operating in conjunction with the integrated control center.
As a result, Pangyo Zero City has established itself as the only real-road-based standard demonstration complex in Korea to apply both the international standard J2735 of the Society of Automotive Engineers, which has been in use since 2021, and the domestic autonomous driving data standard (KS).

The Gyeonggi Autonomous Driving Center has decided to fully implement 'LTE-V2X,' the domestic next-generation intelligent transport system (C-ITS) communication standard established by the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport in December 2023, in Pangyo Zero City in the second half of this year.
Gyeonggi Province expects that practical communication will be possible in the second half of the year, as it will begin related service contracts this month and complete them in the latter half of the year.
