The term "diaspora" originates from a classical Greek word meaning "sowing." Today, it refers not only to simple geographic migration but also to a wide range of social and cultural issues, including the reconstruction of identity, cultural hybridity, and generational disconnect experienced by migrants.
The presentations and discussions addressed a variety of topics, such as the real-life challenges faced by Korean immigrant communities in countries like the United States and Cuba, as well as the identity confusion and generational disconnect experienced by migrant generations in contemporary literature, transcending the boundaries of division and ideology.
Kim Jiyeong, Director of the Institute of Humanities at Daegu Catholic University, stated, "This academic conference was a meaningful opportunity to academically examine the lives, identities, and cultural dynamism of Koreans who have taken root around the world."
