This drill was conducted as part of a preparedness system for proactive response to natural disasters such as localized heavy rainfall, typhoons, and earthquakes, which have been increasing recently due to climate change.
More than 70 people participated in the drill, including representatives from Hwasun County, Jeollanam-do Province, Korea Rural Community Corporation, Hwasun Police Station, Hwasun Fire Station, and the Volunteer Fire Brigade. The exercise was a comprehensive response drill simulating an actual disaster situation.
The drill was carried out in an orderly manner according to a scenario similar to a real situation, assuming reservoir overflow and embankment collapse in four stages: caution, alert, severe, and termination. It included situation reporting and dissemination, resident evacuation, and emergency restoration.
In particular, facility managers, relevant agencies, and residents participated together, focusing on checking the public-private cooperation system and strengthening practical response capabilities.
Cho Youngil, Director of Construction and Transportation, stated, "Above all, initial response is crucial to prepare for unexpected disasters," and added, "We will continue to prioritize the safety of county residents through regular drills and thorough preparedness."
