Since 2022, the province has attracted a total investment of 33.4768 trillion KRW from domestic and international companies (28.3627 trillion KRW from domestic companies and 5.1141 trillion KRW from foreign investors).
The province was able to distinguish itself in the field of investment attraction due to several factors: the establishment of national strategic industry clusters such as semiconductors and displays; excellent transportation and logistics infrastructure, which are geographic and structural strengths; and the active implementation of policies to stimulate investment.
Chungnam Province has the highest number of Foreign Investment Zones in the country (seven locations). At the end of last year, it achieved the top ranking in foreign direct investment (FDI) among non-capital regions, reclaiming the number one position outside the capital area for the first time in five years since 2019, during the eighth popularly elected administration.
Major large-scale investment cases linked to strategic industries include: displays (Corning, Samsung Display); semiconductors (Samsung Electronics, Edwards, Linde); secondary batteries (SK On, Umicore); petrochemicals (Eni, LG Chem); and bio (Celltrion).
The province is expanding the Cheonan 5 Foreign Investment Zone to 150,000 square meters, aiming for completion by the end of May. In particular, it is planning to establish additional Foreign Investment Zones centered around Asan, Dangjin, and Naepo.
In November last year, the province designated Opportunity Development Zones in five cities and counties, covering an area of 1.43 million pyeong. Within this year, it plans to add five more locations to the Chungnam Free Economic Zone.
A provincial official stated, "Even in a situation where corporate investment sentiment is being dampened by measures such as tariff actions by the Trump administration in the United States, we will create a new history by reaching 50 trillion KRW in investment attraction through the establishment of Foreign Investment Zones and the provision of investment incentives."
