The meeting was attended by relevant departments and related agencies, including Korea Water Resources Corporation, Korea Electric Power Corporation, Samchully, and Korea Expressway Corporation. At the meeting, the city decided to implement this plan.
During the meeting, the city discussed strengthening inspections of underground facilities and introducing scientific exploration techniques to detect risk factors at an early stage.
Starting in the second half of this year, the city plans to use national and provincial funds to conduct ground-penetrating radar (GPR) surveys over a total of 100 kilometers, focusing on densely populated areas and major roads with heavy traffic.
This technology is known to be effective in preventing ground subsidence, as it can non-destructively check the condition of underground pipelines and detect the presence of voids. The city expects that scientific investigation methods and systematic inspections will help block the risk of ground subsidence in advance, thereby significantly reducing the accident rate.
