"A Viable Alternative for Revitalizing Fishing Villages"
Kim Wonjung, a three-term independent member of the Muan County Council in South Jeolla Province, along with the Muan County Fisheries and Fishing Village Association, officially declared their support for Democratic Party candidate Jaemyung Lee on May 14, 2025.
In their declaration of support, they stated, "Now is a critical time that calls for practical development strategies to revitalize fishing villages and improve the quality of life for fishermen," adding, "Candidate Jaemyung Lee is the only viable alternative who can overcome the crisis facing fishing villages and inject new vitality."

They also said, "We expect that the fishing village support pledges and regional balanced development strategies proposed by candidate Jaemyung Lee will bring new hope to fishing villages nationwide, including Muan County."
This declaration of support is interpreted as a call from the fishing community for political change and tangible support amid the deepening problems of aging populations and population outflow in fishing villages.
In Muan County, fisheries have traditionally been one of the main industries, and the recovery of the fishing village economy and the expansion of regional infrastructure have emerged as key local issues.
