Professor Oh recently received the Young Investigator Award at the 8th International Meeting of the Korean Association for the Study of Intestinal Diseases (IMKASID 2025) for presenting an abstract titled "Risk Factors for Residual Cancer and Lymph Node Metastasis After Non-curative Endoscopic Resection of Colorectal Cancer: A Multicenter Retrospective Study." Professor Joo Yeongeun participated in this study as the corresponding author.
Professor Oh analyzed factors that can predict the presence of residual cancer cells or the possibility of lymph node metastasis in colorectal cancer patients who underwent endoscopic tumor removal but did not achieve complete resection (non-curative resection). The study was recognized for its academic value in providing important criteria for determining treatment strategies for patients who have undergone non-curative resection.
Professor Kim also received the Outstanding Poster Award at the Korean Society of Gastroenterology International Symposium (SIDDS 2025), which was recently held in Seoul, for presenting an abstract titled "Malformin A1 Amplifies 5-Fluorouracil-Induced Apoptosis and Cell Cycle Arrest in Human Colorectal Cancer Cells." Professor Joo Yeongeun also participated as the corresponding author in this study.
This study was an experimental analysis of how the natural compound Malformin A1 enhances the effects of anticancer drugs. Specifically, it demonstrated that this substance can increase the therapeutic efficacy of anticancer drugs by promoting apoptosis (cancer cell death) and cell cycle arrest in colorectal cancer cells. The research is considered significant as it suggests the potential for natural compound-based adjuvant therapies in future cancer treatments.
Professor Kim stated, "This award is an achievement that widely publicizes the excellent research capabilities and active academic activities of the Department of Gastroenterology at Hwasun Jeonnam National University Hospital both domestically and internationally."
