Gumi Cultural Foundation Selected for Two Programs in Ministry of Culture's "Humanities on the Road" Contest
Specialized Humanities Programs for Children and Adults by Generation
Full-Scale Operation Begins in July
Gyeongbuk Gumi Cultural Foundation has had two programs selected for the final round of the "2025 Humanities on the Road" public contest, hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Arts Council Korea.
"Humanities on the Road" is a nationwide public contest aimed at enhancing the humanities literacy of local residents through humanities programs that combine lectures, hands-on experiences, and field trips. It is held annually for cultural institutions across the country.
The two programs selected by the Gumi Cultural Foundation are "Gumi Children's Folktale Exploration Team" and "21st Century Humanities: Meeting the Contemporary Era." By offering customized humanities content tailored to different generations, the foundation has secured a total of 20 million KRW in national funding.
"Gumi Children's Folktale Exploration Team" is a humanities education program tailored for children, using folktales from the Gumi region as its theme. It targets elementary school students aged 8 to 12. A total of two sessions will be held, each recruiting 20 participants. The program will combine hands-on activities with educational content.
The adult program, "21st Century Humanities: Meeting the Contemporary Era," consists of humanities lectures that reinterpret various fields such as music, philosophy, and art (mythology) from a modern perspective.
The program will be held over 13 sessions, and will also include field trips to explore local humanities resources. Each session will recruit 20 participants, and any citizen of Gumi may apply.
Recruitment and promotion for both programs will begin in June, and the programs will officially launch in July.
Applications can be submitted through the websites of the Gumi Cultural Foundation and the Gumi Life Culture Center.
Lee Hanseok, CEO of the Gumi Cultural Foundation, stated, "We aim to provide citizens with opportunities to reflect on the meaning of life and foster intergenerational empathy, based on the region's unique humanities resources," adding, "We will continue to discover and operate humanities programs that are integrated into daily life."
Meanwhile, the Gumi Cultural Foundation plans to use this public contest as an opportunity to promote the spread of local humanities content, enhance citizens' sensitivity to the humanities, and continue to develop a variety of programs aimed at integrating the humanities into everyday life.
