HJ Heavy Industries and KAI Sign MOU
for Localization of Key Equipment
for High-Speed Landing Craft

HJ Heavy Industries (CEO Yoo Sangcheol) is partnering with Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) to localize core equipment for high-speed landing craft.

On May 9, HJ Heavy Industries announced that it had signed a memorandum of understanding with KAI on May 7 to localize the simulator and integrated engine control and monitoring system (iCAMS) for the high-speed landing craft (LSF-II) Batch-II.

The two companies plan to jointly develop these technologies based on their respective technical capabilities, and will also collaborate on related marketing and business initiatives.

The high-speed landing craft (LSF·Landing Ship Fast) is an amphibious vessel that travels between sea and land using an air-cushion system. It can carry troops, tanks, and armored vehicles, and can travel at speeds of approximately 74 km/h (40 knots). It is deployed in over-the-horizon amphibious operations by the Navy and Marine Corps.

It can operate in areas with difficult terrain such as mudflats, sandy beaches, and rivers, where conventional landing craft have limited access. Its performance is also less affected by water depth.

HJ Heavy Industries is the only defense company in Korea capable of designing and building high-speed landing craft domestically. The company developed both the LSF-I and LSF-II with its own technology, and has built all eight LSF-II vessels ordered by the Navy to date.

HJ Heavy Industries and KAI plan to expand the scope of their cooperation to include the development of equipment for all types of naval vessels, starting with this partnership.

Yoo Sangcheol, CEO of HJ Heavy Industries, said, "By collaborating with KAI, Korea's leading aerospace system integrator, we are participating in the localization of equipment for high-speed landing craft, which are considered a key asset for over-the-horizon amphibious operations. We will continue to contribute to the localization of naval vessel components."
