Mayor Oh Seung-rok Attends 'Baeksa Village Demolition Groundbreaking Ceremony'
On the morning of May 8, Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, held a groundbreaking ceremony for the demolition of buildings in Baeksa Village near the Junggyero Underpass in Baeksa Village.
The event was attended by approximately 100 people, including Oh Seung-rok, Mayor of Nowon-gu, Woo Won-shik, Speaker of the National Assembly, the chairman of the district council, city and district council members, officials from SH Corporation, Hwang Jin-sook, the residents' representative, and local residents.
The ceremony proceeded in the following order: introduction of guests, briefing on the project progress and demolition schedule, congratulatory speeches, unveiling ceremony for the demolition, and a tour of the demolition site.
Baeksa Village, known as the last hillside village in Seoul, has long been the subject of urban regeneration and redevelopment discussions. Starting with asbestos removal work in March of this year, full-scale demolition began on May 8.
The demolition is scheduled to continue until November, after which construction is expected to begin in December 2025, with completion targeted for the end of 2028.
