Until the end of this month, callers to the district office's landline will hear an announcement related to 5·18. A blood donation campaign and donation of blood donation certificates, involving local residents, will also take place. On the following day, members of the Youth Executive Committee and newly appointed public officials will visit the National 5·18 Democratic Cemetery to participate in memorial activities such as cleaning gravestones and placing small national flags.
On May 16, "Jumeokbap DAY" will be held together with senior citizens participating in job programs, recreating the sharing of Jumeokbap, which symbolized civic solidarity in 1980. On May 17, participants will walk to four historic sites related to 5·18 in Bukgu (the main gate of Chonnam National University, Gwangju Station Plaza, the main gate of Mudeung Stadium, and Gwangju Prison), where they will engage in environmental cleanup and plogging activities.
In addition, until May 21, every Wednesday at 5:18 p.m., an audio broadcast titled "Remind 5.18.Hz" will be aired inside the district office building, recounting the situation in Gwangju during the 5·18 period.
Moon In, the head of Bukgu District Office, stated, "Thanks to the voluntary participation of young public officials, we have prepared unique 5·18 commemorative programs," and added, "We hope these projects will provide an opportunity to reflect on the meaning of May in Gwangju and to share the spirit of democracy."
