Songpa-gu (District Mayor Seo Kangseok) announced that it will produce and distribute the "Haha·Hoho Cup" within the district office building to reduce the use of disposable cups and promote the use of reusable cups.
The district plans to distribute approximately 1,000 "Haha·Hoho Cups," made from reusable materials, within the district office. By doing so, Songpa-gu aims to spread the culture of using reusable cups in daily life, centered around the district office, and will continue its efforts to promote the reduction of single-use products.
The "Haha·Hoho Cup" is made of Tritan, a material that does not break even if dropped. It is more durable than plastic cups made of PP or PET, and it does not release harmful substances such as phenol even at high temperatures, making it suitable for use as a food container for hot beverages.
In addition, the district has installed an automatic sterilizing reusable cup washer along with the introduction of the Haha·Hoho reusable cup. The washer uses an eco-friendly detergent and can sterilize and wash cups at high temperature in less than 65 seconds with a one-touch button.
Through the automatic washer, both employees and visitors will be able to use reusable cups in a hygienic and convenient way, which is expected to encourage more active participation in resource circulation practices.
The district explained that, although it has consistently encouraged the use of reusable cups, adoption was slow due to the inconvenience of washing them. To address this, the district has installed an additional reusable cup washer capable of cleaning up to 20 cups at once.
Previously, the district enacted the "Ordinance on Reducing the Use of Disposable Products in Songpa-gu, Seoul Metropolitan City" last year to reduce the use of disposable products and create a sustainable urban environment. It has also installed and operated automatic sterilizing tumbler washers within the district office as part of its ongoing efforts to reduce single-use products.
The tumbler washer is available at the Onjo Cafe on the first floor and the civil service office on the second floor of the district office, while the newly installed reusable cup washer is available in the break area on the fourth floor.
