Trump Sparks Controversy by Declaring November 11 as 'World War I Victory Day'
Donald Trump, President of the United States, sparked controversy by declaring that Memorial Day, also known as Veterans Day, would be commemorated as World War I Victory Day.
According to the online media outlet Daily Beast on May 2 (local time), President Trump announced on his Truth Social account the previous day that he would designate November 11 as 'World War I Victory Day.'
However, in the United States, November 11 is observed as Veterans Day, honoring retired military personnel. Former President Woodrow Wilson initially proclaimed it as Armistice Day right after World War I, but in 1954, the U.S. Congress changed the name to Veterans Day to honor the patriotism of all veterans who served in the U.S. military.
