Operation of the Suncheon-type "Smart Hyu (Hyu) Family Camp"
A Day in Nature with Family, Free from Smartphones
Suncheon City, South Jeolla Province (Mayor Noh Gwan-gyu), announced on May 2 that it will operate the "2025 Suncheon-type Smart Hyu (休) Family Camp," a one-night, two-day residential healing program for elementary school students in grades 4 to 6 and their guardians who are struggling to control their media use. The camp will be held from June 13 to 14.
This camp is designed to give families a chance to step away from smartphones and spend time together in nature, communicating and cooperating. It will feature a variety of interactive programs, including alternative media activities (such as forest bingo, ecological craft experiences, and family recreation) and group family counseling sessions.
Since 2013, the Smart Family Healing Camp has provided opportunities for healing and recovery to families experiencing difficulties due to media overdependence. One guardian who participated in the camp shared, "I used to argue frequently with my child over mobile phone use, but through the program, we were able to laugh, talk, and communicate together, which was a great help."
Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until May 27. Interested participants can apply through the Suncheon Youth Counseling and Welfare Center website or by using the QR code on the promotional poster.
A city official stated, "We hope this camp will provide an opportunity for families struggling with media use regulation to communicate and restore their relationships in nature. We will continue our efforts to foster a healthy media culture that is created together by youth and their families."
