Gwanak District Opens Seoul's First Mountain-Type Park Golf Course ... Expected to Become a Healing Destination in the City
A Nine-Hole Mountain-Type Park Golf Course Utilizing Natural Terrain on an 11,285 Square Meter Site in Nangkok-dong, Gwanaksan
Trial Operation Throughout May, Official Opening in June
Free Admission and First-Come, First-Served Access During the Trial Period
Gwanak District (District Mayor Park Junhee) held the opening ceremony for the "Gwanak Park Golf Course" on April 30, which is set to become a center for residents' health and leisure culture as well as a new landmark for the district. The course will now begin its trial operation.
The opening ceremony began with a progress report, followed by congratulatory remarks and greetings, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, a ceremonial tee-off, and a tour of the facility as part of the first session. In the second session, friendly matches between various associations were held.
Mayor Park expressed his thoughts, saying, "I feel a sense of fulfillment in being able to return the Nangkok-dong area of Gwanaksan, which has caused inconvenience to residents for decades due to waste landfill and illegal parking, to the citizens as a 'healing destination' for healthy leisure activities."
The district began construction in September last year with a total project cost of approximately 2.2 billion KRW. The park golf course, featuring nine holes, was completed on a 11,285 square meter site in San 108-10, Sillim-dong.
Amid high expectations from residents, the Gwanak Park Golf Course will operate on a trial basis throughout May. The operation is divided into four sessions per day, with nine teams allowed per session. Residents can form teams of four and either call the Gwanak District Facilities Management Corporation for advance reservations or visit the course for first-come, first-served access. Usage during the trial period is free of charge.
The Gwanak Park Golf Course was established as part of the "Gwanaksan Park 24 Project," which aims to blend culture with the natural environment of Gwanaksan. Unlike previous riverside-centered courses, it is the first "mountain-type" park golf course in Seoul, allowing users to enjoy park golf amidst the natural scenery of Gwanaksan within the city.
After collecting feedback and making improvements during the trial operation in May, the Gwanak Park Golf Course is scheduled to officially open for regular operation in June.
