Prosecutors Seek 20-Year Sentence Again in Appeal for Man in His 20s Who Fatally Assaulted Ex-Girlfriend
Prosecutors have requested a 20-year prison sentence for the defendant in the so-called 'Geoje Dating Violence Death Case' during the appeals trial.
The Changwon Panel of the Busan High Court's 1st Criminal Division (Judges Min Dalgi, Kim Changyong, and Kang Youngsun) held the sentencing hearing for the appeal on the 30th.
At the hearing, prosecutors asked the court to overturn the original sentence of 12 years in prison for the defendant, a man in his 20s referred to as A, and instead to impose the previously requested sentence of 20 years in prison.
Previously, A was indicted on charges of breaking into the residence of his ex-girlfriend, B, also in her 20s, on April 1 last year, climbing on top of her while she was sleeping, beating her head and face, strangling her, and assaulting her so severely that she died. He was sentenced to 12 years in prison in the first trial.
The verdict for this case is scheduled to be delivered at 2:00 p.m. on May 21.
