'Safe Passage from Susaek Station to Sangam-dong'... Mapo-gu Actively Leads Installation of Susaek Station Pedestrian Walkway
Mapo-gu Strongly Emphasizes the Need for an Above-Ground Pedestrian Walkway to Seoul Western Region Project Division and Korea Railroad Corporation
Pedestrian Walkway Installation Included in the Amendment to the District Unit Planning Area and Plan for Susaek·DMC Station Surroundings
A green light is expected for the convenience and safety of residents moving from the Susaek Station area to Sangam-dong in Mapo-gu (District Mayor Park Kangsoo).
Until now, the Susaek Station area has been divided by the above-ground Gyeongui-Jungang Line railway facilities and vehicle depot, cutting off connections with neighboring districts. This has hindered balanced regional development and commercial revitalization.
Additionally, Susaek Station does not have an entrance on the Mapo-gu side, making it very inconvenient to access the Sangam-dong business district. The main pedestrian route, the Susaek Station underground passage, has also become outdated, leading to continuous complaints from residents demanding environmental improvements.
In response, on February 22, 2024, Mapo-gu strongly emphasized to the Western Region Project Division of the Seoul Metropolitan Government and Korea Railroad Corporation the necessity of constructing an above-ground pedestrian walkway (footbridge) at Susaek Station during a meeting on development projects in the Susaek Station area.
Furthermore, on March 20 and April 29 of the same year, Mapo-gu raised the issue of the aging underground passage at Susaek Station and requested the construction of a pedestrian walkway during meetings with relevant agencies, urging the prompt development of the Susaek Station area.
Mapo-gu also sent several official documents to related agencies, requesting that the above-ground pedestrian walkway be prioritized during the development of the Susaek Station area.
Seoul Metropolitan Government also plans to foster the Susaek Station area as a major hub in the northwestern region, and on December 26, 2024, decided (and amended) the district unit planning area and plan for the Susaek·DMC Station surrounding area.
This plan includes the construction of a wide pedestrian bridge and the expansion of underground connecting roads to link the north and south areas divided by railway facilities.
Mapo-gu intends to continue communication and cooperation with relevant agencies to resolve long-standing resident demands through the integrated development of the Susaek Station area.
