10 Grand Prize Winners Announced

The Bitgoeul Art Competition, held on April 28, received 1,350 entries, which is 30 more than the 1,320 entries submitted last year. In this year's judging, 10 Grand Prize winners were selected, including Lee Bokja in the Minhwa category for her work "Chaekgado."
The Grand Prize winners of the Bitgoeul Art Competition are as follows: Minhwa, Song Kyungae ("Hwalot"); Korean Painting, Kang Sangho ("Waiting for Spring"); Western Painting, Seo Hyeok ("Scenery in Time"); Calligraphy, Park Okhee; Literary Painting, Kim Sunhong ("Owl Waiting for the Night"); Craft, Park Sangeon ("Ecstasy"); Photography, Jung Minho ("Traditional Play"); Sculpture, Lee Eunye ("A Handful, A Fragment"); Woodcarving, Lee Pilyoung ("The Greatest Failure"); Media, Choi Miyoung ("Exhaustion of the Self").
In addition, 9 winners received the Excellence Award, 23 received the Merit Award, 9 received the Outstanding Artist Award, 212 were selected for the Special Selection, 237 for the Honorable Mention, and 45 received the Special Award.
The award-winning works were exhibited at the Gwangju Biennale Exhibition Hall from April 25 to April 28.
Kwack Soobong, Executive Committee Chair, stated, "The Bitgoeul Art Competition can enhance artists' motivation for creative activities and support the expansion of their artistic endeavors. It serves as a medium for the Mecenat movement and will help expand new art markets," adding, "Positive interactions between corporations and the art world will increase the impact of art on society as a whole."
