50-Year-Old Man Sentenced to 30 Years for Killing Ex-Lover's Younger Sibling
Attempted to Kill the Son as Well, but Failed
A man in his 50s who killed the younger sibling of his ex-lover was sentenced to a heavy prison term.
The Criminal Division 11 of the Seoul Southern District Court (Chief Judge Jang Chan) sentenced Lee, who was indicted on charges including murder, to 30 years in prison on the 17th.
Lee broke into a residence in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, around 1 a.m. on December 19 last year and killed a man in his 40s, the younger brother of his ex-lover, A.
He also attempted to kill A's teenage son with a weapon but failed.
Lee claimed that since he stopped after attempting to kill A's son, he should be recognized for 'abandonment of attempt,' but the court did not accept this.

The court stated, "The defendant stabbed A's son's thigh and left arm with the weapon he had at the time," adding, "The pain the victim must have suffered from being stabbed to death is unimaginable, and A's son endured mental and physical suffering, including two surgeries due to serious injuries." The court further said, "Simply not stabbing the victim despite having the opportunity to kill does not constitute abandonment of attempt."
