South Korea, the United States, and Japan Agree to Strengthen Naval Cooperation Against North Korean Threats
The navies of South Korea and the United States, along with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, held a high-level video conference and agreed to strengthen cooperation and collaboration regarding North Korea's nuclear and missile threats.
On the morning of the 17th, Admiral Yang Yong-mo, Chief of Naval Operations of the Republic of Korea Navy, held a high-level trilateral video conference in the meeting room of the Navy Submarine Command with Acting U.S. Navy Chief of Naval Operations Admiral James Kilby and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Chief of Staff Admiral Akira Saito, the Navy announced.
The meeting was held to effectively deter North Korea's nuclear and missile threats and to enhance trilateral cooperation and collaboration among the South Korean Navy, U.S. Navy, and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force in preparation for North Korean provocations at sea.
At the meeting, Admiral Yang stated, "In preparation for North Korea's nuclear and missile threats, close communication and efforts among the South Korean Navy, U.S. Navy, and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force must continue," adding, "Through continuous trilateral cooperation and collaboration among South Korea, the United States, and Japan, we must effectively deter and respond to North Korean provocations and strengthen maritime security capabilities."

Meanwhile, the South Korean Navy, U.S. Navy, and Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force have been continuously working to enhance joint response capabilities against North Korean threats, including the trilateral maritime exercises in March and the Freedom Edge exercises last November.
